The Steyr 50 was produced by Steyr_Daimler-Puch AG. It was introduced to the public at the 1936 Berlin Auto Show. It was powered by a four cylinder boxer engine that drove the rear wheels through a four speed gear box. The car offered more seating and luggage space than Ferdinand Porsche's Volkwagen but yet was shorter. It had a large metal sliding roof and was equipped with hydraulic brakes.
The car was revised in 1938. It featured a more powerful engine and a longer wheelbase and was offered as the Steyr 55. Production ceased in 1940 at which point 13,000 cars had been produced.
