1965 Bugatti 101C roadster

The original Bugatti car company died in 1952. Virgil Exner, an American designer,  was assigned the task of resurrecting the marque. It looks like he started by using a Bugatti radiator shell from the 1930's. This 101C concept was built by Ghia.

1954 Chevrolet Corvair Corvette concept

Poor number  of sales after introduction nearly caused Chevrolet to discontinue Corvette production. Only 300 examples of the 1953 model were made. The idea of introducing a fastback version of the car was quickly shelved. Apparently there were five Corvairs made but none of the originals survived. Blue Flame Restorations created a replica of the 1954 Corvair. The story and more photos is here on silodrome.com

Volvo Venus Bilo

The Venus Bilo was a concept car from 1933. It had nine specifically designed suitcases for compartments in the vehicle. It had two spare tires one of which served as a rear bumper. It rode on a PV655 chassis. The design led to the Volvo PV36 Carioca production car (pictured below) from 1935-38. The fate of the concept is unknown. After WWII it was sold to a scrap yard where it was turned into a truck.

Citroen DS Tissier

This transporter was found in a salvage yard in southern France. It is one of three remaining vehicles out of a production of thirty five built by Tissier. The standard pneumatic suspension system was altered to allow the ride height to be controlled individually. This allowed raising the front suspension and lowering the rear suspension enabling loading/unloading vehicles without the use of ramps.

Zunndap Janis microcar

Following WWII Zundapp offered an array of two wheel motorized vehicles. In about 1955 people started demanding weatherproof transportation. The motorcycle industry began to falter.

Zundapp looked around and settled on Dornier's prototype and named it Janus after the two faced Roman god. It had Isetta style doors and a centrally located 250cc Bella scooter engine. It had a MacPherson strut suspension. The 14hp engine proved inadequate as the top speed was 50mph (80km).

Production began in June of 1957. It was determined that 15,000 cars was the break even point, but in the first six months only 1731 cars were built. It was found that people weren't keen on watching the landscape from the rear facing back seat.

By 1958 it was obvious the Janis would not succeed and the factory was sold to Bosch. Few examples of the car remain.

When cubic inches ruled the road

The ad reads: The spirit of the seventies is nowhere more evident than in the handsome 1970 Eldorado. It exclusive new V-8 engine with a displacement of 8.2 liters (more than 500 cubic inches) performs with rare brilliance yet offers plentiful reserve to operate the Eldorado's many power assists. And with the precision of the front-wheel drive, Eldorado handles with the grace and agility that will set the pace for personal cars in the years ahead. The 1970 Eldorado, in every respect, heralds a decade of motoring excitement.

"Eldorado handles with the grace and agility..." A very bold statement on a land yacht that weighed 4894lbs (2220kg)
