Short flight


This not a photoshopped image.  The European green woodpecker (Picus viridis) was the prey of a least weasel (Mustela nivalis).  The image was capture in Hornchurch Country Park in East London.

This Armour-Stiner House is the only known fully domed octagonal private residence known to exist.  It is a National Historic Landmark located in Irvington, Westchester County, New York.

A new 1976 Thunderbird


Apparently this 1956 Thunderbird was on the showroom floor in Memphis, Tennessee when the dealership closed, and has been sitting there ever since.  Total sticker price was $8930.

Frankenstein street rod


 This appears to have started life as a Corvette with a need to join forces with a '59 Cadillac.  The front end metal looks like the 1930's.  The mirrors are a nice finishing touch.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands


The vineyards here grow their grapes in pits that are dug into the volcanic soil.  This protects the vines from the trade winds which would otherwise draw the moisture out of the vines.

Hey, look at me


Decades ago this configuration was something found in Australia's Outback.  The heavy front bumper was protection from kangaroo strikes.  Before the advent of cell and satellite phones the antennas were needed to maximise reception in the vast Outback should you need rescued.  Vehicles like this in today's Australia are simply put together for the attention they garner.

Whale of a story



This tram went through the barrier at the end of the line in the Netherlands. The whale tail sculpture saved the unit from falling.  If you can read Dutch (or have Chrome) you can read the particulars here.
