Model A hauling the mail

 A friend sent me this with the included information. The photo was from 1940. The Ford Model A was put on a Model AA truck chassis. Airplane wheels and tires were added which enabled it to handle winter rural mail delivery in Nebraska.  At times the wind would blow it off of the road.

1960 Berkeley T60

 

The Berkeley was popular with the motorcycle crowd in England because it didn't require a motorcar license. It was powered by an Excelsior Talisman engine displacing 328cc.  It filled the gap in the market for three wheeled vehicles when Morgan stopped production of their three wheeled vehicles. Lehaitre tracked motorcycle

J. Lahaitre developed the "tractor-cycle" in 1939.  It never went into production.  His plans included mounting a machine gun and while that didn't happen they did find it useful in riding through bomb craters.

Six wheeled ambulances

 Examples of Citroen (top) and Saab ambulances.  When I saw the Citroen  my first thought was what a great camping vehicle that could be.  Google was quick to deliver!  While the example below isn't a converted ambulance I think they might be first cousins.

Tasman Bridge Disaster

On January 5, 1975 the bulk carrier Lake Illawarra strayed from the navigation channel on the Derwent River in Hobart,  Australia.  The resulting collision with the Tasman bridge caused two piers of the bridge to collapse.  Four cars fell into the river whose five occupants died.  Seven crew members on the Lake Illawarra died from the falling debris. The occupants of the two cars left on the edge of the remaining portion of the bridge escaped unharmed. Therein lies an interesting story of just how close one of those cars came to falling into the river.  It was saved by it transmission catching on the edge- read about that here.

The Crocodile

 

Swedish A-tractors are homebuilt tractors with restrictions that seem to be ignored.  This example started life as a Scania 76 which is a diesel powered road truck.

They appeal to teenagers because they can legally drive them prior to having a license to operate a passenger car or truck.
