1948 Buick Roadmaster

I am not a big fan of old Buicks but this really caught my heart.  I was in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan a couple of weeks ago and ran across this one at the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village Museum.  A great walk through of pioneer Saskatchewan.  It is a self guided walk through with a number of surprises including this Roadmaster.  It had wonderful patina and the original interior had that old car aroma as well.  Other than the red wheels and a mechanical rebuild sometime in the past it appeared to be an original vehicle.

I couldn't mention Saskatchewan without making some reference to the landscape.  This was typical of the forty minute drive along the Trans Canadian Highway from Regina (Provincial Capital) to Moose Jaw.

1967 Saab 96

In a comment to M. Silvius on Nails and Sawdust I said I had had a Saab that took the same odd size tires as his Volvo.  I drove this car for many years and sold it when my storage space was maxing out.  It was front wheel drive and (under) powered by a 3 cylinder 2 cycle engine with a four speed transmission.  It featured free wheeling.  That allowed the car to coast (at idle) when you let off of the throttle rather than experiencing engine braking.

The fuel tank had about an 8 gallon capacity.  Some of these cars had oil injection but this one did not.  You drove until the low fuel warning light illuminated in the fuel gauge.  At the service station you dumped a quart of 2 cycle oil in the tank and then filled up with gas.  I developed the habit of placing my foot on the rear bumper and rocking the car during the fill up to help mix the oil.  It smoked some and sounded somewhat like a chainsaw.

It was a very cute car and I miss it.

Honda Mean Mower V2

Honda recently set a new record for 0-100mph with a time of 6.285 Seconds.  The Mean Mower is reportedly capable of reaching 150mph.  The engine is from one of Honda's CBR 1000RR Fireblades producing 189 horsepower with it's inline four engine.

There is a nice YouTube video of the record runs here.

I was not familiar with the Fireblade but the internet was quick to give me a reference:
