Fordite
Also known as Detroit agate these gem like pieces are in fact relics from the automotive industry. Over spray buildup on tracks and hangers made numerous trips through the curing ovens at facilities that painted cars and parts. This buildup was occasionally removed. The color layering provided interesting pieces as they were cut and polished. Today's technology has eliminated the processes that produced this layering of multiple paint colors, so the supply has dried up...
Additional examples can be seen at mymodernmet.com. Urbanrelicdesign.com has produced jewelry showcasing Fordite, but apparently they are currently sold out.
