1936 Steyr 50

The Steyr 50 was produced by Steyr_Daimler-Puch AG. It was introduced to the public at the 1936 Berlin Auto Show. It was powered by a four cylinder boxer engine that drove the rear wheels through a four speed gear box. The car offered more seating and luggage space than Ferdinand Porsche's Volkwagen but yet was shorter. It had a large metal sliding roof and was equipped with hydraulic brakes.

The car was revised in 1938. It featured a more powerful engine and a longer wheelbase and was offered as the Steyr 55. Production ceased in 1940 at which point 13,000 cars had been produced.

Donald's Tire Trouble

As a former child I will admit I was a big fan of Donald Duck. Apparently he is still very popular in Norway. Donald's 313 car (March 13 is apparently Donald's birthday) was replicated there in 1991. It uses an Opel Kadett engine for power

It was fun watching Donald's Tire Trouble the Disney's cartoon from 1941. I hope you enjoy it as well.

1962 Ogle Lightweight GT

The Ogle SX1000 was introduced in 1961 while the Lightwieght GT followed in 1962. David Ogle would take a customer's BMC Mini and rebody it. The cars used the Mini Cooper 997cc engine. The British Motor Corporation initially refused to supply Ogle with new parts but eventually relented with the stipulation that the BMC Mini could not be mentioned in Ogle's promotional material.

David Ogle was killed in a traffic accident while driving a Lightweight GT to the Brands Hatch racing circuit. Production was ceased and the last assembled cars were sold in 1963. Total production on Ogle cars was 69.

1922 Persu Streamliner

Aurel Persu was a Romanian engineer and car designer. He was the first to place the car's wheels inside the body in an effort to make it more aerodynamic efficient. He was an interesting individual and made contributions to the aviation industry as well as teaching at the Polytechnic Institute. He was ousted by the communist regime after WW2. At the age of 60 he joined a professional orchestra playing the cello. Only one car was ever built and when he was no longer able to drive he donated his car to the Dimitrije Leonida Technical Museum in Bucharest.  It remains there and the car's odometer shows 120,000 kilometers. Read more about the man and his car at Ceautoclassic.
