Set to launch in May the Harmony of the Seas is 1194 feet in length.  It has a crew of 2,394 to serve 5,479 passengers.  What is it that I am missing here?  This is actually an activity that people want to participate in?

In 1960 Alfred Heineken had an idea to bottle his beer in bottles that could be repurposed to build housing for the impoverished people of Curacao.  He enlisted Dutch architect John Habraken to design the interlocking bottles.  They were named World Bottles (WOBO), but unfortunately they only went as far as the prototype stage.

No ordinary hole in the ground

The second largest man made hole in the world (Bingham Copper Mine in Utah being number one) is the Mirny Diamond Mine.  It is located in eastern Siberia.  Excavation began in 1955 to supply the Soviet Union's needs for industrial grade diamonds.  It is 1,722 deep and 3,900 feet across.

Open pit mining has ceased, but during its peak years it was producing 10 million carats of diamonds annually- a good percentage of which were gem quality.  Additional photos and information available at Atlas Obscura
