Plowing with a team is hard work. It is easier with a smart team and the aid of a helper. In this situation the boy followed along until they reached the end of the field. At that point he walked up and handled the team in making the turn while the man wrestled with the plow and they walked down to the starting point for the next furrow that would run back to the other end of the field.
This is a photo that I took almost 50 years ago. It was taken near Lisbon, Ohio. The farm is one that my mother lived on as a child almost 100 years ago. The house, barn and outbuildings are erased from the landscape at this point. All that remains are the memories.
