Shorpy

I recently became aware of a website that is dedicated to posting high resolution images some of which are 100 years old- www.shorpy.com   It has an amazing collection of images across a broad spectrum of subject matter.

The site is named after a fourteen year old Alababa mine worker- Henry Sharp "Shorpy" Higginbotham.  Shorpy was employed as an oiler on the tipple at Bessie Mine, near Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.  There are four photos of Shorpy and additional biographical information.  Find those here  .

Don't worry about the cat

This is a set up-  somebody throws the cat through the snow that blew up against the door.  Who puts food out for a cat on the top of a snowdrift?  ....and then she positions herself to be away from the landing area.  If you look closely you can see the "thrower's" hand being pulled back as the cat hits the floor.  While it is probably safe to say the cat wasn't injured, you can bet he wasn't happy about the treatment.

Disagreement

Two female red-crowned cranes fight in the early morning cold in a field in Tsurui, Hokkaido Island, Japan.  The island hosts a variety of rare animals, some of which are endangered species.
